FAQ

Doesn't TF2 have a VR mode already?

A long time ago, Valve shipped a VR mode in TF2 for the Oculus DK2. You could look around with your headset, but you still moved with a controller or mouse and keyboard. This mod adds full 6-DOF motion controls in the vein of Half-Life: Alyx. The VR mechanics are built from the ground up, and starting the mod in VR is as simple as launching it from Steam.

When is it coming out?

No release date yet. TF2VR is still in development. Wishlist it on Steam and we'll announce it there.

What headsets are supported?

TF2VR runs on Windows through SteamVR (and on Linux through Proton). All headsets compatible with SteamVR are supported.

Do I need a copy of Team Fortress 2?

Yes. You need to own Team Fortress 2 on Steam and have it installed in order to run the mod. It's free! (And so is this mod, forever and always.)

Will my items from regular TF2 carry over to TF2VR?

Yes. Your entire TF2 backpack carries over to TF2VR. This includes weapons, hats, taunts, skinned weapons, and the rest.

Will this mod work on standalone VR headsets?

There is planned standalone support, but only for the Steam Frame.

Can I play without a headset?

Yes. Desktop play is supported. Mouse and keyboard or a controller, no headset required.

Can I play with non-VR players as well?

Yes. VR and non-VR players can play together in any gamemode, but only if everyone is on TF2VR. Mod players can't join vanilla TF2 servers, and vanilla players can't join TF2VR servers.
